History of Albany

In the year 1540 when the search for trade routes to the Far East in 1609 an explorer Henry Hudson came to La Grande France Riviere.Pada year 1624 the first settlers, founded a colony called Fort Orange for the House of Orange, the Dutch royal family. In tahun1629 Dutch West India Company established a trading post at Fort Orange. In 1652 Pieter Stuyvesant, governor of New Netherland Fort Orange stated that the village should be Beverwyck, no longer under the administration patroon Kiliaen Van Rensselaer, a Dutch diamond merchant.

In 1664 when the Dutch surrendered to the British without a battle, King Charles II granted the region, including New Netherland, New England, Long Island and Delaware kingdom to the brother of James, Duke of York and Albany both. So Beverwyck became Albany and New Amsterdam became New York. Albany remained under British rule until the American Revolution.

At that time on July 22, 1686 which represents the crown of Governor Thomas Dongan granted a charter recognizes English as the city of Albany. Dongan Pieter Schuyler was also appointed as the first mayor.
